Ben Dressler currently works as a Usability Analyst for Shop Direct Group, UK’s leading online retailer. He researches the challenges that customers face on their various online journeys and drills down into the why’s and how’s of the user experience.

Ben has studied Psychology at the Universities of Düsseldorf and Maastricht and obtained his MSc in 2012. Before moving to the UK he lived in Germany, The Netherlands and Sweden. Ben worked as a User Research Consultant for several game companies and startups, advising entrepreneurs on tailoring user research to their specific needs and resources.

His general area of interest lies in what makes virtual experiences immersive and engaging rather than tedious and frustrating. Why can the placement of a button greatly influence conversion? Why do people get stuck on simple tasks for half an hour? And what can eCommerce learn from Tetris?

Topic of Presentation: The user is king. Right?

UX has become a popular term lately and most people have realized it is somewhere between fairly important and absolutely crucial. But how do you know what experiences your users are having? How do you find out why they bounce or return? And how do you translate problems with the user experience into $$$?

I'll talk about what user research is, why you should be doing it and how you can do it with different techniques on different budgets. We will look at some examples from my work at Shop Direct and specific challenges depending on the industry you're in. And we'll be doing some live user testing on stage.

If anything, UX is going to become more important. So let's make sure you are prepared!
